An exile captive, severed from his home,
Torn from the friends he loved in life's sweet spring;
Heart-broken toils, while still his sad thoughts roam
Back to the past which now no joys can bring;
Vainly he seeks compassion and relief
In human hearts around, to cheer of soothe his grief.
Unguarded Gates
© Thomas Bailey Aldrich
WIDE open and unguarded stand our gates,
Named of the four winds, North, South, East, and West;
Upon The Whipping Of The Top
© John Bunyan
Tis with the whip the boy sets up the top,
The whip makes it run round upon its toe;
The whip makes it hither and thither hop:
'Tis with the whip the top is made to go.
Unbreakable
© Mirabai
Unbreakable, O Lord,
Is the love
That binds me to You:
Like a diamond,
It breaks the hammer that strikes it.

I gladly would sing in a joyous strain,
But my heart of its joy is bereft;
Umbria
© Robert Laurence Binyon
Deep Italian day with a wide--washed splendour fills
Umbria green with valleys, blue with a hundred hills.
Dim in the south Soracte, a far rock faint as a cloud
Rumours Rome, that of old spoke over earth, ``Thou art mine!''
Under A Flowering Tree
© Robert Laurence Binyon
Under a flowering Tree
I sat with my dearest Love.
Night flowered in stars above
And the heart was a--flower in me.
Upon A Penny Loaf
© John Bunyan
Thy price one penny is in time of plenty,
In famine doubled, 'tis from one to twenty.
Yea, no man knows what price on thee to set
When there is but one penny loaf to get.
Ultima Thule: Bayard Taylor

Lying dead among thy books,
The peace of God in all thy looks!
Upon His Sister-in-law, Mistress Elizabeth Herrick
© Robert Herrick
First, for effusions due unto the dead,
My solemn vows have here accomplished;
Next, how I love thee, that my grief must tell,
Wherein thou liv'st for ever.-Dear, farewell!
Unrest In Autumn
© Dora Sigerson Shorter
Beside my window sighs the last lone rose,
Saying, Alas! farewell! Youth's all but dead.
Ugliest Man In Town
© Sheldon Allan Silverstein
Handsome guys get girls that are pretty
Other guys make it cause they're clever and witty
But the only love I ever got I got out of pity cause I'm the ugliest man in town
Yeah I drive down the street in a Roys Rolls car
Under The Old Elm
© James Russell Lowell
Placid completeness, life without a fall
From faith or highest aims, truth's breachless wall,
Surely if any fame can bear the touch,
His will say 'Here!' at the last trumpet's call,
The unexpressive man whose life expressed so much.

Why feel guilty because the death of a lover causes lust?
It is only an animal urge to perpetuate the species,
Unfinished History

WE HAVE loved each other in this time twenty years
And with such love as few men have in them even for
Under Especial Blessing
© Sydney Thompson Dobell
Lord Christ, Lord Christ, ah for a little space
Turn hence. Some day, when I again am low
Upon The Horse and His Rider
© John Bunyan
There's one rides very sagely on the road,
Showing that he affects the gravest mode.
Unknown Country
© Harold Monro
Here, in this other world, they come and go
With easy dream-like movements to and fro.
