August

© Edith Nesbit

LEAVE me alone, for August's sleepy charm
  Is on me, and I will not break the spell;
My head is on the mighty Mother's arm:
I will not ask if life goes ill or well.
There is no world!--I do not care to know
Whence aught has come, nor whither it shall go.

The Burial

© Thomas Osborne Davis

"_Ululu! ululu!_ high on the wind,
There's a home for the slave where no fetters can bind.
Woe, woe to his slayers!"--comes wildly along,
With the trampling of feet and the funeral song.

Hymn - Consecration of Magnolia Cemetery

© Henry Timrod

Whose was the hand that painted thee, O Death!
In the false aspect of a ruthless foe,
Despair and sorrow waiting on thy breath -
O gentle Power! who could have wronged thee so?

Aeneid

© Virgil

THE ARGUMENT.- Turnus takes advantage of AEneas's absence,
fires some of his ships (which are transformed into sea nymphs),
and assaults his camp. The Trojans, reduc'd to the last extremities,
send Nisus and Euryalus to recall AEneas; which furnishes the
poet with that admirable episode of their friendship, generosity, and
the conclusion of their adventures.

And 'still on each evening when pleasure fills up,'
At the old Goat-in-Boots, with Metheglin, each cup,

Hymn XXX: Where Shall My Wondering Soul Begin?

© Charles Wesley

Where shall my wondering soul begin?
How shall I all to heaven aspire?
A slave redeemed from death and sin,
A brand plucked from eternal fire,
How shall I equal triumphs raise,
Or sing my great Deliverer's praise?

Let Me Think

© Faiz Ahmed Faiz

You ask me about that country whose details now escape me,
I don't remember its geography, nothing of its history.
And should I visit it in memory,
It would be as I would a past lover,

Goblins

© Robert Laurence Binyon

The night is holy and haunted,
Asleep in a vale of June.
Stillness and earth--smell mingle
With the beams' unearthly boon.--
Yet a terror is fallen upon me
From the other side of the moon.

A Storm in the Mountains

© Charles Harpur

Portentous silence! Time keeps breathing past—
Yet it continues! May this marvel last?
This wild weird silence in the midst of gloom
So manifestly big with latent doom?
Tingles the boding ear; and up the glens
Instinctive dread comes howling from the wild-dogs’ dens.

Fruits of his cares and children of his toil;
