Biography
Richard Schaukal, writer, translator, literary critic, studied law. From 1903 on the executive committee of the ministerial council in Vienna, then head of a division and head of the executive committee in the Ministry of Labour, took early retirement in 1918 and worked as a free-lance writer. His poetic works were influenced by French symbolism, the neo-Romantic and by Heinrich Heine and show a traditional understanding of art; emotiona-laden, melancholic poems and prose marked by cultural pessimism. ..
