The Morning

Alone I wake each morning,

With no one there to play;

I would rather just stay in bed,

And forget about the day.
*****
Half asleep, I reach for you,

And hear voices in my head;

I realize you’re no longer there,

By the emptiness of the bed.
*****
I collect my thoughts and clear my mind,

And proceed to dry my eyes;

The real man has to hide away,

For it’s time for the disguise.
*****
Crawling slowly out of bed,

I reach deep down for power;

And make my way down the hall,

To greet the morning shower.
*****

The smell of soap is sweet and clean,

And makes me feel so fresh;

But painfully reminding me,

Of when I kissed your flesh.
*****
I soon return to my room,

And expect to see you there;

Clinging to my pillow,

Just like a teddy bear.
*****
You’re not here this morning,

So I slip into my clothes;

Trying to put on a smile,

To make sure no one knows.
*****
I wave and greet the neighbors,

Then climb into my car;

That’s when pain controls me,

For I wonder how you are.
